WACIDOM was originally formed in 1994 to find ways to support and encourage music-making in the Warrington and surrounding area.It subsequently funded several series of recitals at various venues in Warrington to provide a platform for musicians of all levels of ability - but especially young musicians.

For the past 17 years, WACIDOM has concentrated on two areas:

'The Warrington Competition for Young Musicians' which has been held biennially since 1998.

2016 Finalists

The Upper Division continues and in 2018 will celebrate 20 years since the first competition.

This will be the 11th competition. The format has scarcely changed over the years as it was always intended to show greater emphasis on education rather than prizewinning. Improvements were made by adding a ‘Presentation and Platform Skills Workshop’ and from 2018 there will be a new category for ensembles. The Competition has expanded over the years and now accepts entries from young musicians under the age of 19 years resident in the WA, CH, CW, SK, L, WN or BL post code areas. This covers Cheshire, Merseyside and parts of Greater Manchester. Full details are given in our Application Form elsewhere on this website.

Series of free Saturday lunchtime concerts (12.30pm to 1.15pm) are held at Bold St Methodist Church Warrington – usually about 25 recitals per year. They are normally given by students of Music Colleges (or recent graduates) or gifted local musicians. To date almost 400 free concerts have taken place which have given opportunities not only by providing a platform for the musicians but by bringing high quality music to members of the public in Warrington town centre.

Norman Cutter

Classical music-lovers in Warrington have an enormous debt of gratitude to Norman for all the ventures he started and his dedication in keeping them going. It was not just what he did, but the way he did it, with a smile on his face, and in 2013 his enormous services to music were rightly recognised with the award of the British Empire Medal. Read More
