Warrington Arts Council Initiative for the Development of Music - known as WACIDOM - was formed in 1994 to find ways to support and encourage music-making in the Warrington and surrounding area.
It subsequently funded several series of recitals at various venues in Warrington to provide a platform for musicians of all levels of ability - but especially young musicians.

More recently, WACIDOM has concentrated on two areas:

'The Warrington Competition for Young Musicians' has been held biennially since 1998. Prizes are awarded to the finalists of both the Lower Division (up to Grade 6) and the Upper Division (Grade 7 upwards). All entrants to the heats receive a short master-class from a professional adjudicator and a written appraisal. In 2004, the Competition was expanded to accept entries from young musicians under the age of 19 years living in the "WA" postal area. It now accepts entries from applicants resident in the WA, CH, CW, SK, L, WN or BL post code areas. This covers Cheshire, Merseyside and parts of Greater Manchester. Full details are given in our Application Form elsewhere on this website.
